AEG Parts????

Post by ssrc30 on 20th October 2008, 23:12

Ok, being that I am new, I thought I would ask a few questions. here is my first one.

I have always been a DIY kinda guy, and being that I am so new in the sport I thought it would be fun to try building my own rifle. I know this might not be the smartest thing to do for my first gun, but I doubt I would be the first to do such a thing.

I am wondering what a good site would be where I can get the necessary parts to build a good metal AEG?

Thanks.

It would be much cheaper to get age verified and buy a gun on ASC. Building your own, especially if you don't know what you're doing, can be very expensive, as in thousands expensive. that and some components you'll need are illegal for you to import without proper permits and are very hard to find in country. You can get package deals on ASC for less than a grand.

The local age verifier in GP is macguyver. Go on ASC and do a search for him, then pm him to firm up details.

I agree 100% with Darklen. I wouldn't try frankensteining together an AEG without experience. Rumour has it that Darklen is one of the best 'Gun Doctors' around these parts so I hope you follow his advice. If you absolutely HAD to put together your own AEG, a PTW Kit would be the only option. At least all the parts are likely to fit together properly.... Personally, I'd rather have some better gear or more toys for my G36 than dump huge amounts into a PTW or lots of trial and error. It can be very expensive. One quick example. I have now tried 3 different brands of hop-up rubber($5-$10 each plus shipping) in my KWA G36 and none fit except the original KWA rubber. It was a painful lesson as I have 2 KWA AEGs and can't use any of these rubbers. Did I say rubbers? Lol, I need some sleep and take a holiday. Can we have another NAD or RAAT season ender soon so I can take a travel day off work? Darklen?

They are right, I put an AEG together and it was a nightmare, especially getting the rail front to mate with the body with a nitro rail, three hours on a bench grinder. But in the end and almost $1400 CDN later it was done, if your interested I'm selling it for a steal of $900, and that includes a battery, optic sights, and 12 mags including one G&P illum mag for tracer bb's.
